Would you trust a company that didn’t use its own solution?

Imagine talking to a vendor and learning that they don’t use their product or solution themselves. It’d make you think twice about buying, right? That’s why the concept of Customer Zero is so important.

What is Customer Zero?

It’s where a company aims to become the best customer of its own product or solution, using it like a customer would. It enables the company to gather user feedback and identify areas of improvement before releasing more widely. It’s a recurring concept that keeps coming up (and imho a better replacement for the less appealing term “dogfooding”). Last month I saw Marc Benioff referring to Salesforce as Customer Zero when announcing Agentforce was live on Salesforce help pages.

Customer Zero isn’t just for large corporations. At Vinton by Nativevideo, our team embraces being our Customer Zero. Before launching new features or updates into the world, we use them ourselves, testing them and perfecting them.

Every new release of Vinton is added in our Dev and Demo environments first. As Vinton joins all our calls, this helps us experience the product exactly as our customers will, giving us critical insights which means we can:

  • Drive innovation: Living with the product uncovers those “aha!” moments that inspire improvements.
  • Enhance quality: Every feature is fine-tuned to meet real-world needs.
  • Speed up delivery: Early feedback lets us iterate faster.
  • Spot issues early: We catch as many bugs as possible before they reach customers.
  • Build trust: If we didn’t use our product, why would anyone else?

Customer Zero transforms how we work. We collaborate even more closely, and everyone in the organisation feels empowered to share their feedback, whether it’s a frustration or a feature they love.
